Start Here!

Hey there!  Welcome to Crunchy Paleo Mama!  I'm a stay-at-home mom who is passionate about natural living, eating clean, entertaining my preschooler, and doing it all on a budget.  I get questions all the time regarding my way of life, and the social media sites I was using to store and catalog recipes and articles just didn't allow me to answer those questions so I started this blog.  This is the place where I collect information, recipes, and ideas and share it with you!  (And also where I organize things so I don't lose them.  Ahem...)

I make most of my own household cleaners and personal care products.  Laundry detergent, fabric softener, bathroom cleaner, facial cleanser, moisturizer.  You name it, I make it or I'm trying to make it.  You can find an index of the recipes I use on the DIY Cleaners and DIY Beauty pages.  Anything I link to here has been tried, approved, and is currently in use in my home.

Most of the recipes you will find here are paleo or close to it.  I have found that in our case the best balance of feeling good and sticking to a budget means eating a modified paleo diet.  We eat primarily meat, vegetables, and fruit.  I do occasionally use jasmine rice, beans, and some dairy.  You will see pasta recipes and non-paleo desserts on this site, including some recipes that use processed foods.  We do "cheat" sometimes, but these foods are mostly treats and are reserved for special occasions.  I believe that all foods - with the exception of artificial sweeteners and food dyes - can be enjoyed in moderation.  If you are new to this form of eating I recommend that you complete a Whole30 challenge and then slowly introduce foods back into your diet so you can see which foods you tolerate and which ones you don't.  I also highly recommend the books Practical Paleo by Diane Sanfilippo and Your Personal Paleo Code by Chris Kresser.  These books helped us get started with this process, and present the information in a way that is easy to put into practice.  If you're looking for a specific recipe you can use the search feature or you can browse the Recipe Index.

Hopefully you'll find something of value in these pages.  If you like what you see or if you have a suggestion please leave a comment.  I'd love to hear from you!  Thanks for stopping by!
